Album Cover: "Calentado Trasnochado" / Illustration

We had the privilege of conceptualizing and illustrating the cover for “Calentado Trasnochado”, the new double album by the Bogotá-based punk rock band Chite. This record brings together 24 songs from artists around the world who have deeply influenced the band throughout their career, spanning genres from cantina melodies to Spanish rock and punk.

For the visual concept, we drew inspiration from the iconic cover of Guns N’ Roses’ covers album, “The Spaghetti Incident?”, which features a plate of spaghetti with tomato sauce in the foreground. Years later, the Brazilian band Ratos de Porão reinterpreted this idea in their own cover, replacing the spaghetti with feijoada, a traditional Brazilian dish.

Following this tradition of culinary tributes, we chose to highlight an emblematic dish from Colombian cuisine: calentado, a symbol of resourcefulness, flavor, and tradition. This choice not only reinforces the album’s spirit but also underscores the diversity and richness of its musical influences.

Unlike previous covers that used photographs, we opted for a vibrant and eye-catching digital illustration. Inspired by the graphic style of the culinary magazine Lucky Peach, directed by chef David Chang, we created an image that is colorful, expressive, and full of energy, capturing the irreverent and passionate essence of Chite.

Calentado Trasnochado: Sudaka & Global

Below we share a text about the album taken from the band's social networks:

Calentado is one of the most iconic culinary expressions of Colombian identity. Taking something from yesterday, mixing it, and giving it a new flavor is a tradition deeply rooted in our land. In the same way, this album revives songs and blends them with our way of understanding and playing punk rock, serving them up for our listeners. This compilation embraces the popular tradition of covering other artists’ songs and reinforces a practice we’ve embraced since our early years.

In the first volume, Calentado Trasnochado Global, we gather ingredients from different parts of the world, presenting 12 covers of bands that have shaped us. You’ll hear our take on songs by Mano Negra, The Specials, Johnny Cash, Los Vegetales, FANTA, Pleasure Fuckers, Bad Religion, Turbonegro, Hombres G, The Queers, Ramones, and The Clash.

The second volume, Calentado Trasnochado Sudaka, features songs by Rómulo Caicedo, Fiskales Ad Hoc, Attaque 77, Leo Marini, Super Uva, Aterciopelados, Los Tres, Ratos de Porão, Alfredo Gutiérrez, LMP, and Los Prisioneros.

This two-part compilation is a bastard child that follows the aesthetic lineage of spaghetti and feijoada. Enjoy this flavorful mix and pair it with the alcoholic beverage of your choice.
